8 Basic Pasta Cooking Tips Everyone Should Know


Cooking pasta is a quick and easy way to get dinner on the table as it can be as simple as topping it with a pre-made sauce. It can also be dressed up with all sorts of different additions such as seafood, gourmet mushrooms or a variety of vegetables. The list is endless. To get your pasta just right, here are 8 basic pasta cooking tips everyone should know.


1. Stir the pasta as soon as it is added to the boiling water.
2. Don't add oil to the cooking water as it will keep the sauce from properly coating the pasta.
3. Drain the water from the pasta as soon as it is finished cooking.
4. Use plenty of water to boil the pasta in. Use at least 5 litres of water for each pound of pasta being cooked.
5. Do not rinse the pasta as this will also keep the sauce from sticking to it.
6. Salt the cooking water using 1 tbsp. of salt for every 3 litres of water.
7. Be sure that the water is boiling vigorously before adding the pasta.
8. Have the pasta sauce warm and ready for when the pasta is cooked. Add the pasta to the sauce immediately after being drained.
